The regional authority of Galicia in north-west Spain will support the establishment of the Rioglass Solar plant at El Barco de Valdeorras, close to two other sector companies which are already running or about to start operations. The regional government support will be made through its risk capital manager Xesgalicia. The other firms, located just over the border in neighbouring Castilla and Leon region, are multinational Vitro Cristalglass, which is about to inaugurate the enlargement of its laminating line at the La Rozada plant, and Tcnicas de Vidrio Transformado (Tvitec), which will open its doors in a matter of weeks on the Bayo industrial estate at Cubillos del Sil. Rioglass Solar is a venture with technology company Abengoa to make energy saving architectural glass and thin glass for photovoltaic applications in which autoglass manufacturer Rioglass has an 80% stake.
