After months of collaboration with industry experts, businesses and stakeholders from across the glass value chain, ResponsibleGlass has reached an important milestone and launched the first public consultation on the ResponsibleGlass International Standard for Glassmaking DRAFT v1.
Running from July 20 to September 18, 2026, this 60-day consultation is an opportunity for everyone with an interest in the future of responsible glassmaking to review the draft and help shape the final standard.
The draft has been developed by the ResponsibleGlass Board, Management Team and Stakeholders in line with the ResponsibleGlass International Standards Development Procedures and builds on feedback received during the consultation on the Preliminary Proposals published earlier this year.
The consultation document sets out the first complete draft of the ResponsibleGlass International Standard for Glassmaking. It covers the full spectrum of responsible glass production, including:
- Management systems, governance, legal compliance, anti-corruption, transparency and reporting
- Responsible sourcing of input materials, including mined, synthesised and recovered materials, as well as energy inputs
- Environmental performance, covering greenhouse gas emissions, water stewardship, biodiversity, waste and emissions management
- Social responsibility, including occupational health and safety, labour rights, human rights and engagement with local communities
- Design for sustainability and circularity, considering both in-use and end-of-life impacts
- Supporting guidance, including a glossary of terms, bibliography and information on future chain of custody and claims requirements
Whether you are a glass manufacturer, supplier, customer, civil society organisation, researcher, policymaker or other stakeholder, your feedback is invaluable.
Comments and suggestions can be submitted throughout the consultation period by emailing standards@responsibleglass.org with the subject line: Comment: ResponsibleGlass Glassmaking Standard.
All comments received by September 18, 2026 will be reviewed by the ResponsibleGlass Secretariat and published following the close of the consultation. The feedback will inform the development of a second draft of the standard, planned for publication in 2027, with the final standard expected to be ratified in 2028.
