Danish company Refiber has developed a pyrolysis process for removing fiberglass from used wind turbine blades. The fiberglass thus extracted from the blades can be used as insulation material. The process also makes it possible to gasify the plastic parts from the blades and use the gas for heating. The company applied unsuccessfully to the Ministry of the Environment for subsidies worth between DKK 25 million (USD 4.29 million/EUR 3.35 million) and DKK 30 million to set up a facility to demonstrate the technology.
