8 April 1999: Austrian industrial fire-proof and insulating materials maker Radex-Heraklith (RHI) said it was planning to pay a 1998 dividend of Sch 16, unchanged from the previous year. RHI, issuing final figures for last year, also said earnings per share were unchanged at 49 schillings, or 3.5 Euros. RHI said in January it was considering paying a higher dividend, despite failing to meet its return on sales target (ROS) of 5%, based on pre-tax profit. In 1998, ROS was flat at 4.1%, but sales rose 3.6% to Sch 22.2 billion (US$ 1.77 billion) despite emerging market crises and a dramatic decline in steel production in Europe and North America, the company said. Final results put pre-tax profit at Sch 912 million, up 2.8% on the previous year. Net profit stood at Sch 740 million, up 1.8%.
