Quinn Glass controversial UK bottle manufacturing plant, threatened with closure because without proper planning permission, has received positive response from the local council“s head of development management. Cheshire West and Chester Council“s strategic planning committee will meet the first week of September 2009 to consider the recommendation, and it is expected that the new application for the GBP 260 million (EUR 295 million) factory will be approved by the committee. Ardagh Glass, competitor of Quinn, has been engaging court battles with the local council to prevent the granting of retrospective planning permission to Quinn Glass. If the council“s committee grants planning permission for the factory, the application will be referred to the regional government office. The secretary of state could then call in the application for a determination, probably resulting in a public inquiry.
