Specialty chemical company Praxair Inc. said at the end of August that it intended to raise prices of its carbon dioxide by up to 20% for merchant customers in the US due to efforts to improve its supply system. Praxair said the increase, which was set for Sept. 12, was in line with the terms of its contracts. The Danbury, Connecticut, company said it is taking several actions to make its supply system more reliable, including providing additional rail and truck capabilities and increasing capacity at several production facilities. Praxair is the world“s third-largest industrial gas supplier. Its gases are used in the chemical, food and beverage, metals, semiconductor, and health-care industries.
