PPG Industries spokesman Jeremy Neuhart said 33 production workers or 25% of the workforce were temporarily laid off on 17 February 2009 from the glass plant at Fresno, California. The company plans to rehire them in one month, he said. Declining demand for the products made from glass produced by PPG, such as windows, led to the furlough, he said. Month-long furloughs are taking place at some of the Pittsburgh-based company“s 50 plants to save money.
