The US glass company PPG has had a successful production run of its Starphire glass line at its Carlisle flat glass plant in the US, according to a recent press release. Production began on schedule in late December 2000 and was completed in early February this year. Starphire glass is available in thicknesses from 2.5 to 12 millimeteres and has higher visual clarity and light transmittance than traditional float glass as a result of its unique composition. In standard 6-millimetre thickness, Starphire glass achieves 91% light transmittance compared to 89% for standard clear glass, and maintains its clarity even in laminated thicknesses required for security and spandrel applications.
