David E. Sharick, director of corporate development at US group PPG Industries, has been elected vice president. Aziz S. Giga, director of strategic planning, was also elected vice president and will report to Sharick. Sharick, 45, joined the company as internal audit manager in 1985 and was named manager, financial accounting, in 1986. He moved to glass and fibreglass in 1990 and was appointed controller for these businesses in 1994. He assumed additional controller responsibilities for PPG“s chemicals businesses in 1999 and during 2000 became corporate development director. Giga, 53, began his PPG career in 1977 as a chemicals strategic planning analyst. He was named manager of strategic planning, chemicals, in 1985, became director of corporate planning in 1988 and assistant treasurer, global finance, in 1992. In 1995, he was appointed controller and director of new business development, chemicals, and became strategic planning director in 1997. PPG also announced that L. Blaine Boswell, PPG Industries vice president of public affairs is to retire on 31 March 2001 after more than 32 years with the company. Assuming responsibility for internal and external communication is Benjamin R. Fisher Jr., 48, director, corporate marketing, who was elected vice president, corporate marketing and communications. In charge of the company“s relations with elected officials and regulators will be Jeffrey R. Gilbert, 58, vice president, government affairs. Gilbert will also be executive director of the PPG Industries Foundation.
