Barry J. McGee, vice president, flat glass, has been appointed vice president, automotive original equipment glass, for PPG Industries a global supplier of coatings, glass, fiber glass and chemicals , effective 1 March 2003.McGee replaces Ernest A. Hahn, who is retiring the same day after more than 36 years with the company. “Barry combines extensive experience with the demonstrated ability to create strategic direction and initiate change,” said Charles E. Bunch, PPG president and chief operating officer. “His breadth of experience, including manufacturing, marketing and general management, combined with familiarity with the demands of the automotive industry will serve him well in this position.” No successor was immediately named for McGee“s flat glass post. McGee, aged 58, began his PPG career at the company“s Huntsville, Alabama, aircraft glass plant in 1971 as development engineer. He followed this with three years at the Wichita Falls, Texas, flat glass plant as a production engineer before moving to PPG“s headquarters office in Pittsburgh, where he held a series of marketing and sales assignments. In 1987 McGee was appointed manager of PPG“s flat glass plant at Carlisle, Pennsylvania. He returned to Pittsburgh headquarters in 1989 as director of glass new business development, and in 1988 was named director of flat glass production and engineering. He was appointed vice president, glass technology and manufacturing services in 1997, and to his current post in 2000. Originally from Memphis, Tennesse, McGee holds a physics degree from the University of Memphis, a master“s degree in physics from the University of Tennessee and a master“s degree in business administration from Alabama A&M University.
