PPG of the US has completed the expansion of its plant at Hoogezand in the Netherlands. The expansion has doubled PPG“s worldwide capacity for DE cut glass fibres. These fibres are used to make glass fibre mats and to replace asbestos. However, the subsidiary in Holland said prices have fallen in the first six months of this year and it has closed three ovens because of lower demand. PPG saw its net profit shoot up from Fl 13.8 million in 1995 to Fl 40.8 million in 1996. The company said prices were, in fact, higher and there was a stronger demand.
