5 November 1998: PPG Industries posted third quarter 1998 earnings at US$ 166 million, down 3% on sales which were flat at US$ 1.8 billion. For individual sectors, coatings posted record sales of US$ 824 million, a 12% increase attributed to acquisitions and volume gains. This was offset by glass sales which fell by 9% to US$ 601 million. Chemical sales also fell by 9% to US$ 379 million.
