Russell L. Crane, 60, PPG Industries“ senior vice president of human resources and administration, announced his retirement, effective at the end of the year. “In his 37 years with PPG, Russ has had a tremendous effect on our organization,” said Raymond W. LeBoeuf, chairman and chief executive officer. “Russ has been a change agent in so many ways – diversity, talent management and innovation. He created a new focus on the importance of the development of our people, resulting in strengthened employee development programmes.” Crane joined PPG as a labor relations assistant at the former Crystal City, Missouri, glass plant in 1963. A succession of human resources assignments in glass culminated with his appointment as human resources director of subsidiary PPG Canada Inc. in 1978. He was appointed manager of the Creighton, Pennsylvania, glass plant in 1981 and director of automotive replacement glass sales in 1985. He subsequently headed glass branch operations until his election as vice president of corporate human resources in 1988. Crane was elected to his current post and the company“s executive committee in 1994.
