PPG Industries declared force majeure on architectural, residential and specialty glass products on 22 August 2008 as a result of torrential rains earlier in the week at its Wichita Falls, Texas, glass manufacturing facility, which flooded the plant“s basement and damaged critical process equipment. “We temporarily ceased operations at Wichita Falls on Tuesday”, said Mark J. Orcutt, PPG vice president, performance glazings. “As a result, it is commercially impracticable for us to meet our customers“ demands at this time. PPG is working diligently to minimize any disruptions to our customers and to bring the facility back into operation as soon as possible”. Production was temporarily halted on both float glass lines at the Wichita Falls facility, but workers were able to restore glassmaking on one line by the 22 August.
