25 September 1997: The US glass company Pittsburgh Plate Glass (PPG) is planning to reduce its staff by 6% in Europe, where it employs 2,800 people. In France, the Boussois unit will lose around 100 employees, 12% of the total. The job reduction plan was recently presented to the works committee of PPG“s French operations PPG Industries Glass, which employs almost 2,000 people. The jobs will be cut through natural departures, an early retirement plan and the introduction of part-time work; PPG pointed out that there will be no compulsory redundancies. PPG has already cut 70 jobs at its Italian unit.
