PPG Industries has, according to a press release dated 14 March, improved the solar transmittance of its Solarphire PV photovoltaic glass to help enhance the performance of solar energy collection components manufactured with this product. Solarphire PV has ultra-low iron levels for high transmittance across the entire solar spectrum, along with a proprietary glass chemistry that increases solar transmittance in the near-infrared band. In thicknesses of up to 3.2mm, the glass transmits up to 91% of total solar energy. Solarphire PV is also available with anti-reflective and corrosion-retardant coatings in response to specific performance requirements of component manufacturers.
