4 June 1998: In the latest news, PPG and Donaldson Lufkin & Jenrette (DLJ) are mustering forces in a bid to top Akzo Nobel“s UK 1.8 billion, 450p-a-share offer for Courtaulds, one of Britain“s oldest companies. Reports say, however, that if they do offer about 475p, that may not be the end of the matter. Akzo is not expected to give up easily and is likely to come back with a higher bid, analysts say.
