PPG Auto Glass, a consolidated affiliate of PPG Industries, has agreed to acquire certain assets of the wholesale distribution network of Independent Glass Distributors, a subsidiary of privately owned Iowa Glass Depot. Terms were not disclosed. “The acquisition will strengthen our ability to provide auto glass shops with high-quality products and service, especially in the Midwest,” said Marc Talbert, president, PPG Auto Glass. Based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Independent Glass Distributors is a wholesale distributor of automotive replacement glass and related products with 18 branches throughout the central and western United States. With more than 130 branches, PPG Auto Glass is the largest distributor of automotive replacement glass in the United States. PPG Auto Glass is a joint venture formed in 2000 by combining the US automotive replacement glass distribution businesses of PPG and Apogee Enterprises. Pittsburgh-based PPG is a global supplier of coatings, glass, fiberglass and chemicals, with 108 manufacturing facilities and equity affiliates in more than 20 countries. Sales were USD 9.5 billion in 2004.
