PPG Aerospace, a maker of aerospace coatings, sealants and transparencies, is set to invest USD 10 million into China in the near future, it was reported in China Daily. According to the report, the company will be investing to set up more application support centres (ASCs) around the country. Fang Hong, general manager of PPG Aerospace Asia Pacific, was quoted in the report as saying that the company will be setting up a new ASC venture in Tianjin with future ventures in Guangzhou and Chengdu as part of its expansion plans in China. Fang also said that the establishment by Airbus of a production facility in Tianjin is the reason why PPG Aerospace will be setting up a new ASC venture in Tianjin, as “Airbus has asked us to offer integrated services and products”, Fang said. The China Daily report also said that the market shares for PPG Aerospace“s major product portfolio in China, namely coatings, sealants and windscreens, are 85%, 90% and 60% respectively. PPG Aerospace is a subsidiary of US-based PPG Industries, which started investing in China in the 1980s. PPG Industries is listed on the New York Stock Exchange and saw net income of USD 596 million in 2005.
