Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA) announced in December 2001 that LYNX Services, L.L.C., a subsidiary of PPG Industries, Inc., has chosen CA Services to support a leading-edge automotive glass insurance claims management system that delivers unmatched scalability, rapid customer service and extremely efficient repair contracting. The system, which uses CAs Advantage Ingres II Enterprise Server as its core database engine, is enabling LYNX Services to seamlessly handle the growth of core auto glass and First Notice of Loss claims management businesses. In 2001 the company handled a record level of more than 3 million transactions. In its glass claims management, LYNX Services connects policyholders, insurers and automotive glass repair shops via call centres, EDI and the Web, improving customer service and efficiency, while providing high-value information services for leading insurance companies. Policyholders get the convenience of 24 hour 7 days-a-week service and a simplified procedure that requires just one call. The insurers get an expedited claim and a qualified participating installer committed to high-quality standards ultimately does their repair. According to Robert Brookes, director of Information Technology, LYNX Services chose CA Services for its technical expertise and its extensive logistical experience in the launch of its new e-Business initiatives. LYNX Services uses CAs Advantage Ingres II Enterprise Server on HP N-Series Servers, thereby gaining the scalable, high-performance transaction processing integral to eBusiness. CAs Advantage Ingres II database is also available on various other platforms, including Windows, UNIX, OpenVMS, and Linux. CA Services supported LYNX Services by helping the company leverage the latest release of Advantage Ingres II, integrate with new heterogeneous e-Business architectures and address a number of challenges that were unique and critical to the success of the LYNX Services implementation. The performance of the application, resulting from the efficiency and speed of the database, has allowed PPG Industries to still take the same number of calls without adding additional hardware. LYNX Services, L.L.C. was founded by PPG Industries, Inc., in 1994 to manage auto glass claims for insurance companies and glass service providers. It now handles more than 3 million auto glass claims per year. The company has expanded its services offering to the insurance industry to include complete First Notice of Loss reporting, and recently announced its intent to expand their proven business model into collision claims management.
