6 November 1997: The Swedish packaging producer PLM has recorded a 1997 nine-month profit of SKr 492 million after net financial items, 21% higher than in the same period in 1996. The group“s January-September sales rose by 6% to SKr 6.836 billion. The beverage can division improved its operating profit by 40% to SKr 373 million, although the glass division saw its operating surplus fall to SKr 185 million from SKr 203 million because of what PLM“s chief executive Fredrik Arp described as a “structural imbalance” in central Europe. The acquisition of Poland“s second largest glassworks helped to lift the glass division“s sales by 10% to SKr 2.52 billion, however.
