The Swedish PLM group has asked the Swedish-owned NCC-Puolimatka firm to build an aluminium can-making plant at its site in Naro Fominsk, Russia. The value of the contract is put at around FM 130 million (SKr 200 million). The project will be managed by a Finnish staff using local labour and subcontractors, and construction material will mostly be Finnish. The new plant should have an annual capacity of 1.75 billion cans when it works at full capacity, PLM said in a statement. The company said the first of two production lines would be operating in the autumn of 1998 and the second at the start of 1999.
