The decision by Pittsburgh Glass Works to close the third of its three Canadian plants, and ship work to its American locations is causing agitation for the Canadian Auto Workers (CAW) union. Pittsburgh Glass, created in 2008 as a spin-off of PPG Industries“ automotive glass division, with 60% ownership going to private equity firm Kohlberg & Co., operates five US plants and one in Mexico. The CAW has requested that the Canadian operations of General Motors (GM), Chrysler, and a joint venture (JV) between Suzuki and GM, boycott Pittsburgh Glass products, preferring automotive glass from other suppliers. Pittsburgh Glass Works reportedly had no comment.
