2 October 1997: UK glass firm Pilkington has contracted a property research firm, Grimley, to study the company“s European real estate (which totals 3 million square metres). The research will begin in Germany, where Pilkington has major operations, and will look into market values and the conditions under which the company owns or occupies premises. Underperformance in Europe has led to a wide-ranging cost reduction programme under new chief Paolo Scaroni.
