Business travel major TD Travel Group has formed a global alliance across 19 countries after winning a contract from glass maker Pilkington. The Wilmslow, north-west England-based group, which was founded in 1984 by joint managing directors Simon King and John Owen, secured the deal after “18 months of hard work”. St Helens-based Pilkington was bought by Japanese group NSG in 2006 and operates in 29 countries. TD Travel group was invited to tender for the management of the company“s global travel needs. It was a process that involved the TD Travel Group team, led by Chris Mollan, presenting in Japan, Malaysia and in Britain, before being appointed on a three-year rolling contract. It is a deal that will boost TD Travel Group“s GBP 35 million turnover by 16% over the next 12 months, and also saw the creation of a global alliance. While the majority of NSG“s business travel requirements will be from the UK, Chris Mollan set out to identify business travel companies around the globe with which to form an alliance to service its international needs. Nineteen business travel companies have been brought together to form the alliance, and will be able to access TD Travel Group“s IT systems. Chris Mollan said: “NSG has recognised that the TD Travel Alliance utilises countrywide expertise which allows for the many different cultures and expectations of all the countries involved. “Already, simply by analysing how NSG book and pay for its travel, we have guaranteed a six-figure saving for 2009. We are confident that, with further analysis of its travel performance patterns and spend, even greater value and savings will be achieved”.
