Pilkington supremo Paolo Scaroni has denied reports that he is in the running to replace Domenico Cempella, head of Italian airline Alitalia. Scaroni admitted that his name had been mentioned as a possible candidate but said he had no intention of leaving the UK glass group. Following successful completion of the far-reaching restructuring programme initiated by Scaroni in 1998, Pilkington has now launched an expansion initiative involving major joint ventures with French glass firm Saint-Gobain.
