UK glassmaker Pilkington Glass, part of Japanese NSG Group, has closed its factory in Essex, with a loss of 30 jobs. Company management said that it considering the issue of alternative employment at present, and seeks to employ the remaining staff in its other businesses in the UK. Moreover, the company said that the new plant for the production of solar energy glass will create 130 jobs in the area of St Helens. Pilkington presently employs about 3,000 people throughout the UK, in the production of float glass, sheet glass and other glass products.
