27 November 1997: Mr. Warren Knowlton has been appointed to the board of UK glassmaker Pilkington. As president of the group“s worldwide building products group, he will have a key role in the massive reorganisation masterminded by CEO Paolo Scaroni. Knowlton will be directly responsible for the closing, merging or selling of 60 downstream processing plants and for ensuring that the remaining businesses are viable. Recruited by Roger Leverton, Pilkington“s former chief executive, he started work on the same day as Paolo Scaroni. Knowlton joined the company after 20 years at the US firm Owens-Corning, where he rose to the position of president of European and African operations.
