Pilkington Austria, a subsidiary of the UK“s Pilkington plc, is to close its operations in Brunn am Gebierge, northeastern Austria, and in Linz, northern Austria, it was reported on 13 May 2004. The company is closing the units because of a decline in sales, growing competition and falling prices, mainly of facade glazing products. The closures will result in 150 lay-offs among the 600-strong Pilkington Austria workforce. Pilkington also has units in Innsbruck, western Austria, Mitterberghuetten, central Austria and in the capital, Vienna. The Austrian head office is located in Graz, southeastern Austria. The group has annual revenues of GBP 2.8 billion (USD 4.92 billion/EUR 4.17 billion), manufacturing operations in 24 countries on five continents and sales in 130 countries, employing around 25,200 people worldwide.
