PGT Industries, the Florida-based manufacturer of windows and doors, has announced that it intends to hire up to 100 workers at its Salisbury, North Carolina plant. According to Debbie LaPinska, VP of sales and marketing at PGT, the company is expanding its workforce thanks to increased volume from its SpectraGuard vinyl replacement windows. She added that the product line, which is targeted at 26 states outside of Florida, was launched in March and is now “really gaining momentum”. With regards to the market in general, LaPinska noted that replacement activity is still being driven by the USD 1,500 tax credit, and PGT also sees some small signs of new construction recovery in some of the geographic regions it serves. LaPinska added that PGT did the same in 2009, adding about 150 temporary workers and eventually changing them to full-time status.
