Oxford Photovoltaics, one of four winners of the Disruptive Solutions competition by the Technology Strategy Board, has been awarded GBP 100,000 in a competition to develop solar PV cells for windows. The solar glazing technology, which is printed onto semi-transparent glass and comes in a range of colours, was presented at the Innovate10 networking event in London on 12 October, and has the potential to become a major renewable energy solution in the Building Integrated Photovoltaic market. Three other firms were chosen among 550 innovations to win GBP 100,000 in digital, healthcare and sustainability. The sustainability category was won by Arvia Technology for its development in disinfection properties in water treatment for reducing water waste in homes, while two runners-up in each category won GBP 25,000 each.
