22 April 1999: Owens-Illinois, Inc., the largest manufacturer of glass containers in the United States, North America, South America, Australia, New Zealand, and India, and the second largest in Europe, announced that its board of directors has declared the quarterly dividend of US$ 0.59375 on each share of the company“s US$ 2.375 Convertible Preferred Stock, payable on 17 May to holders of record as of 1 May. Meanwhile, the company also announced that L. Richard Crawford has been named chairman of the board, chief executive officer, and president of Owens-Illinois California Containers Inc., the largest manufacturer and recycler of glass containers in California. With headquarters in Pleasanton, it has more than 1,400 employees, with glass container manufacturing plants in Hayward, Los Angeles, Oakland, and Tracy, and a silica sand plant in Ione. Mr. Crawford joined Owens-Illinois in 1983 and has served in a variety of key management assignments in its glass container operations.
