18 June 1998: US-based Owens Corning said it would close its window and door factory in Overland, Missouri, by the end of September. All 147 employees will probably lose their jobs. The company will consolidate the making of vinyl windows and patio doors at its factory in Martinsville, Virginia, spokesman Mark Montgomery said. Montgomery reportedly said that sales have been stable, but not strong enough to keep two factories open.
