Building products manufacturer Owens Corning has chosen The WERCS(R) software for all its material safety data sheet (MSDS) authoring requirements, The Wercs, Ltd., announced 8 February 2006. Toledo, Ohio-based, Owens Corning has nearly 20,000 employees around the world and manufacturing, sales and research facilities in more than 30 countries. The company“s growth is directly dependent on environmental standards, policies and practices. In addition, Owens Corning places emphasis on looking for new ways to advance safety and materials compliance. One of the areas which Owens Corning wanted to improve was its MSDS authoring system. Prior to The WERCS, Owens Corning used a standard system provided by its enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution. However, the company felt that updating MSDSs and data entry was very inefficient. Furthermore, the ERP system did not have comprehensive language translation capabilities. “After evaluating our current MSDS authoring practice, we realized there was a lot of room for improvement,” said Nancy Joy-Poignon, environmental, health and safety customer relations leader for Owens Corning. Through The WERCS, Owens Corning can now author MSDSs in several different languages including Chinese, Danish, Dutch, French, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish. Prior to The Wercs, Owens Corning outsourced translations at a cost that exceeded The WERCS solution cost. In addition, The WERCS Hosted Solution means all application updates and maintenance are outsourced to the software supplier.
