19 November 1998: US-based Owens Corning and Glass Holdings Corp., the US subsidiary of Groupe Porcher of France have completed the formation of Advanced Glassfiber Yarns, the joint venture which will operate Owens Corning“s former glass fibre yarns and speciality materials business. Glass Holdings will own 51% of the venture which has annual sales of US$ 300 million and 1,500 employees worldwide and will be based in Aiken, SC. Manufacture will take place at three sites: Aiken, Huntingdon, Pennsylvania and South Hill, Virginia. Owens Corning will continue to represent the venture in Asia Pacific and Europe until the venture has set up its own organization in those areas.
