According to a recent report, Ornex, the biggest Czech exporter of hand-made Christmas decorations has built up a strong position in the EU countries, the US, Japan and Canada. Ornex trades in hand-made, hand-printed glass Christmas decorations, sparklers and other hand-made and hand-printed articles of Christmas character made by the 24 large Czech and Slovak producers with which it has long-term agreements. According to Ornex director Josef Dvorak, Ornex jointly finances production with the companies, which in total employ some 3,000 people. Sales are concentrated in a limited season, and this means financial planning is required to balance out proceeds over the year, said Dvorak. The biggest Czech producer of hand-painted Christmas glass is Vanocni ozdoby Dvur Kralove, located in East Bohemia, which employs 650 people. Its director Milan Buka says Ornex is a reliable partner, which provides support at critical times of the year and is able to buy cheap glass material. Ceskoslovenska Obchodni Banka (CSOB) bank also positively evaluates the relationship between Ornex and producers. Last year, the American Federated Merchandising Group awarded Ornex the best prize, five stars, for the quality and reliability of deliveries. “Ornex is an exceptional business partner and we have no complaints considering the quality of goods, especially since it produces a very fragile and difficult-to-make assortment, says the president of the association of large retailers (AMC) Zachary Solomon. Ornex expects to finish 1999 with revenues of Kcs 496 million, compared to Kcs 470 million in 1998.
