Spanish PV faade glass specialist Onyx Solar has collaborated with Butech, a subsidiary of tiling specialist Porcelanosa which focuses on materials and construction systems development, in the creation of the first photovoltaic pavement. The product is expected to come onto the market by the end of 2010. It was introduced at Porcelanosa“s Annual Show where versatile and sustainable products were shown to the public. The photovoltaic (PV) pavement is still in an early development stage by Onyx and Butech engineers. The PV pavement is made from solar PV glass and raised ceramic; it can be walked on or have furnishing placed on it thus saving the space that conventional photovoltaics take up. Onyx Solar has also collaborated with Butech on a ventilated PV faade which uses solar energy to provide electricity in buildings and offices. Unlike the pavement, the PV facade is already available and being installed in projects worldwide.
