With more than 21 years experience in glass fabrication, most recently as director of laminated products for Oldcastle Glass, John Bush launched his own new company, John Bush Consulting Inc., on 1 March 2010, to support the glass fabrication industry in response to recent requests for assistance. “I have been encouraged by the number of my contacts who have expressed a need for a true independent opinion,” he said, adding that the slow economy made now the ideal time to start a consulting business. “A lot of companies may not have the in-house expertise [for various projects] and in this economy they don“t want to hire anyone permanent until the recession turns around,” Bush says. “So companies are more likely to bring people on short-term to help them through these projects; they are more prepared to take on a consultant.” Bush has, during his career, been involved with a number of different aspects of the glass industry, also including technical sales, marketing and operations and will, he says, use this experience to offer support and guidance to glassmakers, material suppliers, equipment suppliers, glazing contractors and architects. “I will be focusing on a variety of project types such as technical, marketing, product development and trouble shooting,” says Bush. Bush, originally from the North of England, has a masters in engineering from the University of Cambridge UK and an MBA from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK. He re-located to Florida in 1994 to produce laminated glass to meet the hurricane-resistant requirements of the then newly emerging coastal building codes. He also served as chair of the Glass Association of North America“s Laminating Division for four year, and he is currently based in Atlanta.
