Japan“s Ohara Inc. expects to report a group pretax profit of about JPY 3.1 billion for the fiscal 1H ended 30 April 2006, up 13% on the year and higher than its earlier estimate of an 8% increase at JPY 2.9 billion. The glass manufacturer attributed the higher figure to strong sales of high-margin glass for single-lens reflex digital cameras. Sales are estimated to have increased 5% to JPY 12.7 billion. Canon Inc.“s strong business performance boosted sales of digital camera components. Glass substrates for hard disks also sold well. Ohara is also set to report a net profit of JPY 1.8 billion, up 11% and surpassing its prior estimate by about JPY 100 million.
