Noritake Co.“s midterm recurring profit dropped 15.1% from a year earlier to 1.26 billion yen and after-tax profit edged down 0.1% to 1.01 billion yen, the company said recently. Sales fell 10.3% to 45.08 billion yen in the April-September fiscal first half, the Japan-based tableware and grinding wheel maker reported. Sales were weak in both product categories, according to company officials. For the full year to March 2000, the company estimates a recurring profit of 2.7 billion yen, down 18.3% from the previous year, and after-tax profit of 1.7 billion yen, down 11.6%. Sales are expected to come to 91 billion yen, down 5.7%. The company will report a loss of some 440 million yen from the liquidation of an electronic parts unit in the second half.
