26 November 1998: Japan“s Nippon Sheet Glass Co. will strengthen the growing electronic-related glass product businesses as its mainstay sheet glass remains slack, company officials said recently. In a revision to its four-year business plan ending in March 2001, the company now aims to expand sales of glass for liquid crystal displays, magnetic disks and other electronic-related products. Specifically, sales of such glass will be increased to 35% of total sales by that time from 23% for the April-September first half of the current fiscal year. As the company“s sheet glass businesses are unlikely to improve, it has revised down the overall sales projection in the year to March 2001 to 220 billion yen from the initial estimate of 250 billion yen, and cut the recurring profit projection to 10 billion yen from 15 billion yen, the officials said.
