Japan“s Nippon Sheet Glass Co will increase the retail price of its sheet glass for auto and construction use by 10% from 1 September 2004 the company said on 15 July 2004. The rise is blamed on higher crude oil prices, which have resulted in higher transportation and furnace fuel costs. The retail price of double glazing, which is mainly used in house construction, will increase by 5%. Nippon Sheet Glass will start negotiations with its sales agencies on the price rise. Among the other glass makers in Japan, Asahi Glass announced a price rise for its sheet glass from 1 August 2004. The Asahi price rise is equal to the increase announced by Nippon Sheet Glass.
