12 February 1998: Japan“s Nippon Sheet Glass is to increase production capacity of glass boards used with magnetic disks in PC hard disk drives. The company will invest between 2 and 3 billion yen in their Philippine plant with the goal of being able to produce 2 million boards per month by 1999. The Philippine factory is run by Nippon Sheet Glass“s wholly-owned subsidiary in the Philippines, NSG Philippines. Primary construction of the plant has been completed, and operations are scheduled to begin this month. Initial production is expected to amount to 1 million boards per month. The entire quantity of produced materials will be exported to Japan and then sold to hard drive manufacturers throughout the United States, Europe and Asia.
