28 August 1998: Nippon Electric Glass Sdn Bhd of Malaysia is reportedly investing RM 165 million for a new glass fibre facility in Shah Alam, Selangor. The facility, which is currently under construction, is expected to start operations at the end of the year. Managing director, Mr. Hiroshi Kato, said 80% of production at the new facility is for exports to Japanese and European markets. The facility will have a production capacity of 1.8 million tonnes annually. Kato said the company decided to build the new facility within the same location, because its investment and infrastructure are already there. “We plan to add RM 10 million to our current RM 348.8 million paid-up capital within this year,” said the company“s deputy general manager (administration) Nazri Hassan. Established on 20 January 1991 with an authorized capital of RM 350 million, the company manufactures cathode ray tube (CRT) glass bulbs for colour televisions and computer displays.
