Japanese CRT glass bulb manufacturer Nippon Electric Glass Co will invest approximately JPY 27 billion (USD 247.8 million/EUR 204.7 million) to increase output of glass for liquid crystal displays from its plant in Shiga, central Japan, the company said on 17 June 2005. The company will install a production line for TFT-LCD substrates at the plant. The line will start operation in spring 2006 and will have a production capacity of 400,000 square meters of flat glass a month. Nippon Electric Glass expects to raise the monthly output of flat glass at the Shiga plant to 1.8 million square meters in the summer of 2006, from 1.4 million square meters currently.
