The Nigerian government has announced a new tariff and tax regime to jump-start the country“s oil-dependent economy. Briefing journalists in Abuja, Finance Minister Adamu Ciroma announced cuts in import duties on a number of items including disodium carbonate (soda Ash) from 15 to 5%. The new tariffs became effective 4 January. However, the existing excise duties will be maintained in 2001.
