The August 2000 New York International Gift Fair reported a record-breaking summer attendance – 47,396 domestic and international buyers – reversing the trend towards static show attendance at summer gift markets nationwide. In a continuing effort to offer retailers quality merchandise from around the world, the Fair featured 19 international government-sponsor(d groups, representing Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Israel, italy, Korea, Mexico, Poland, South Africa, and the United Kingdom. 94 independent companies from outside the US stengthened the international presence. This summer, more than 1,650 international buyers attended the Fair. Daily hands-on demonstrations of GLMmarketplace.com (George Little Management“s web site) were available to prospective buyers and suppliers in the Crystal Palace of the Javits Center. A total of 1,800 new registrants were processed at the Fair, bringing the total number of members to 24,000 and product lines represented on the business-to-business system to nearly 10,000. The 140th edition of the semi-annual New York International Gift Fair will feature eleven divisions: Accent on Design, At Home, Floral & Garden Accessories, General Gift, Handmade, Just Kidstuff, New & Distinctive Resources, New York“s Newest!, Personal Style, Tabletop & Homewares, and The Museum Source at the Jacob Javits Convention Center and Passenger Ship Terminal Piers 88, 90, 92 and 94. Fair dates are Saturday, January 20 through Thursday, January 25, 2001 with several divisions opening Saturday and all divisions open on Sunday. A staggered close will be in effect for select divisions and locations.
