New PNC tower gets double-glass exterior skin

PNC Financial Services Group’s new 33-floor headquarters at PNC Plaza will have a sloped roof containing equipment to help manage the building’s environment.

The new headquarters of PNC Financial Services Group at PNC Plaza will have 33 floors of office space and a sloped roof containing equipment to help manage the building’s environment. PNC expects to begin demolition of existing structures in April 2012, and hopes to open the building in July 2015, according to John Robinson, director of development at PNC.
According to architect Doug Gensler, a principle in the Boston office of Gensler, the architecture firm designing the tower, the USD 400 million project will feature a double-glass exterior skin that will allow fresh air to circulate throughout. Other environmentally friendly features include a state-of-the-art geothermal heating and cooling system, which will reduce the amount of water used, and large amounts of natural sunlight to cut energy costs.
