Russia“s Sverdlovsk region plans to set up a holding company based on glass companies in the region. Governor Eduard Rossel, noted that the glass industry in the region should supply its production to the main areas of the economy – construction, fire-resistant production (liquid glass) the oil and metallurgy industry and for the food and pharmaceutical industries. The region has four glass plants: Yertarsky, Irbit, Natalinsk and Ufimsky. Yertarsky, which previously produced technical bottles, is currently idle, as is half the production capacities at Irbit and Natalinsk plants. Production by the Ufimsky Glass Plant satisfies only 20%-30% of demand in the region, even though production at the plant is 15% more than in 1982. Rossel has requested that the regional government look into the proposal to set up a holding company and to pass a resolution on the development of the glass industry in the Mid-Ural region.
