According to a recent report, foreign competition is hurting the Dutch glass recycling industry. Germany and the UK are among countries which subsidize glass recycling plants, and therefore can offer Dutch authorities higher prices for recyclable glass on the open market, the report said. The Dutch recycling sector is asking economic affairs minister Annemarie Jorritsma for a temporary US$ 4.6 million subsidy.
